New Annabelle Hydrangea

Okay, I know we're no where close to spring but I'm already getting pumped up about gardening next year. One reason is because I just received my 2010 Stokes Seed catalog, but also because I just read a press release from Proven Winners about their 2010 offering: a hardy to zone 3 hydrangea called Invincibelle® ‘Spirit’ (Hydrangea arborescens ‘Spirit’ ppaf). They claim it is "the first ever pink flowered, mop-head form of Hydrangea" arborescens (Annabelle type Hydrangea).

From the photos I've seen, this new hydrangea is a show stopper and one that we can feel safe growing in the cold climates.

They go on to say that the "flowers emerge in early summer (May/June) and continue to produce new flowers right up until frost. It is very hardy and easy to grow. The species blooms on new wood, so it will still produce flowers even if killed to the ground by extreme weather."

I'll be adding this one to my collection.

I too saw this and am so excited to find not only a hydrangea to fit zone 3 but such a beautiful one, as well! We moved from zone 7 where we could grow all the hydrangeas and they are a favorite of mine as they dry so well.
